"The hardships of the Oregon Trail, an intelligent, determined young woman who needs a new husband--immediately, and the formidable and wonderfully sexy hero who reluctantly volunteers for this marriage of convenience, all come together for a captivating story in Judith Glad's The Queen of Cherry Vale. Glad's voice is strong, her portrait of the rigors of pioneering life is vivid, and the blossoming romance between Hattie and Emmet crackles with sexual tension throughout this tale of yearning hearts and promises kept." |

"...Glad has such a way with words! She paints a picture of the West as it was so many lives ago and brings it alive in living color! While describing the rugged terrain and the less than ideal weather of the mountains, Ms. Glad deals with the prejudices, greed, and hatred faced by so many in a way that will open many hearts. This is a must read for all romance lovers. Truly a wonderful read!" |

"Judith B. Glad's smooth, lyrical style contrasts beautifully with the rough
harshness of the land into which Hattie Rommel drives her team of oxen. Danger is as inevitable as grief and joy along the Oregon Trail of the 1840's. Hattie expects and faces them all with an indomitable spirit and gentle courage that symbolized the women who settled the land. She wants a home, a place to settle, where she can feel like a queen. She finds it and a great deal more. A woman who has known too many losses in her life, widowed Hattie doesn't expect to gain a second husband, let alone love with Emmet Lachlan, who thinks he wishes to continue roaming until Hattie's love draws him back to stay with her in the Valley she calls Cherry Vale. |

"Judith B. Glad has written a pioneer adventure story well worth reading. Her descriptive words bring the Oregon Territory right into your imagination. You experience adventure and tragedy as they move west, oft times just eking out an existence. You listen in to their inner thoughts and hear their tortured memories, but you also feel their joy as they become friends, then lovers. THE QUEEN OF CHERRY VALE brings together a cast of characters that blend so well that you'll feel like family members. " |

"Together they would make new friends, find new lands, make treaties with Indians and be targeted by bandits. They would face danger, death, joy and heartbreak - but would their shared experiences be enough to turn a wanderer into a settler? Or will Hatties' traitorous heart be broken when he leaves?" |

"The Queen of Cherry Vale" moved at a smart pace, with lots of action and scenery to keep me bouncing along for the ride. The immersion in place was very good, with copious use of historic terms and depictions. The writing style is clear with some lovely turns of phrase that only occasionally dip into purple prose (H.P. Lovecraft got away with using the phrase "gibbous moon," but the rest of us aren't so lucky), but for the most part Glad keeps her prose clean. |
