Assorted reactions to Ice Princess |

"In this era of political correctness, Ms. Glad retells history as it happened in the language of the time.. The Oregon country of the 1840's was the goal of white settlers and miners. It was not a good place to be a half-breed or an escaped slave. In the continuation of the saga, Behind the Ranges, Flower and William tell their story. "Flower doesn't fit into white or Indian society; as a half-breed she has no rights and is not respected by the white man. After being raped and killing her attackers, she leaves; she plans to go to her godfather in England, where she hopes to be safe. "William has escaped from his owner in the south and hopes to find land and freedom in the Oregon country. The history of how escaped slaves were treated is historically accurate and shocking in this story. One only has to read the whipping segment to understand the cruelty of the times. "Ice Princess is a look at the history of the West in a way that will make the reader stop and hope that such things will not happen again. It is hard to look into the dark mirror of history; it is easier to whitewash the bad. Ms. Glad makes us remember that we must always be vigilant against prejudice and hatred." |

"Another quick paced and delightful story from The Behind the Ranges series, ICE PRINCESS was packed with fun, believable characters, exciting action and William and Flower's heated passion. While they seemed like two misfits trying to find their place in a white man's world, they were actually quite clever and always ahead of the bad guys! If you have not read the other books in this series, you will not feel like you have missed anything, each book easily stands alone. However, the books are all so wonderful that you will not want to miss any of them." " |

"Glad captures the essence of a primitive era, but packs more realism in this story than I am comfortable reading. She paints pictures of extreme and difficult situations as this couple travel over rugged terrain. They are constantly stalked by enemies, suffer through tragedies, are often near starvation, and always fearful for their very lives. Though this is a well-crafted story, ICE PRINCESS was a very difficult novel for me to read." |

"Glad has again touched the hearts of her readers with vivid descriptions of the west as it was so long ago. She deals with prejudice and hardships both physical and emotional that must be overcome no matter the odds faced! I am looking forward to the next installment in this series as a child looks forward to Christmas. I know the package will be filled with more of the love and hardships that make for a wonderful romance by this author!" |
